OUTREACH MINISTRY

The purpose of the St. Peter's Community Outreach Committee is to respond to God's call to extend his love to those in the community beyond our church family, by working to understand the needs and problems around us and by connecting these needs to the time, talents, and energies of the St. Peter's church family.

How It Works

The Outreach Committee meets for one hour on the first Monday evening of the month. Typically people outside the parish, parishioners, and committee members identify needs in the community and bring these to the Committee for consideration. The Committee validates the need, assures that the need is not being met by another organization, plans and organizes the parish's response to the need, publicizes, and often leads the program or event.

Programs

Programs range from one-time opportunities (e.g. one afternoon or morning such as the CROP walk, a fundraiser to benefit local and world hunger), to one-time/short-term opportunities such as a parish-wide garage sale to benefit Holy Family School, longer term projects that have an end but may involve a number of weekends such as Habitat for Humanity, as well as on-going ministries that are considered fairly permanent.

Current Outreach Programs include:

  •  Annual Benefit Garage Sale
  •  CROP Walk
  •  St. Joseph's Ministry - home repair and maintenance for the needy
  •  Nursing and Assisted Living Home Ministry
  •  Habitat for Humanity
  •  Outreach Vacation Bible School

Mission Trips

This year marked our first association with St Luke’s of Dallas and their annual mission trip to Honduras. Look for information coming out this summer about the 2005 trip.

Our Outreach collection for December is for The Community Food Pantry.

The focus for December is 18-oz jars of Peanut Butter.
