The Lay Reader Ministry is truly a ministry of the people of St. Peter's. To
participate you must be a confirmed communicant in good standing, at least a
Junior in high school and have a love of joy in sharing the Word with your
fellow parishioners.
Certification is
not required in order to be a Lay Reader. We do not vest for any of the
services. We represent the congregation---the laity. Reading requires clarity
and feeling---not acting! It is a communion shared verbally.
One reader will read both the Old and New Testament Readings,
the Psalms, and the Prayers of the People. The Parish will be asked to
add their own petitions at the proper time during the Prayers of the People.
The readings are emailed to the readers before you are scheduled to read. The
Lay Reader helps the congregation as to the correct responses. This is very
important for the unity of the service.
